I’m always amazed at the beautiful church architecture that managed to survive the Soviet era … granted a large number of churches and monasteries were used as warehouses or horse stables or some such and the inside is often ramshackle, but in general, at least the outer shells have survived. Beautiful!
This (Orthodox churches and monestaries) was the most beautiful part of Russia for me when I went back a couple years ago, and I think, the one that holds the most hope in being rebuilt, better than the economy, that’s for sure.
