Mr. B and I have been watching the Disney Channel, in case you can’t tell:
The fabulous painting on the last pannel is by Darin Overholser, and believe it or not, you can actually purchase it here. Also, really?

Hah. I already knew Aladdin was on tonight because my facebook friends were buzzing about it. Ah, the wonders of the modern world.
LOL. I don’t know what’s worse. The fact that everyone over 20 is watching Aladdin on a Tuesday night, or the fact that we are all talking about it.
C’mon, Aladdin is the greatest, with possibly Simba eclipsing the greatness. Also, so true! A friend recently told me that the reason his boss hates Russians is because the boss’s brother (who is of Indian heritage) was once sitting next to a drunk Russian on a plane and they both got kicked off before take-off, because the Russian was hassling the boss’s brother for being an Arab.
Aladdin is among the best. I love Aladdin, and him and Jasmine may or may not have been my cake topper at our wedding. Also, totally believe the story. Oh, Russians.
It looks like Aladdin is going to have a blast!
Snicker.
Vicki: I looked after the 3 yo next door for a half hour or so yesterday. Guess what she was watching? Aladdin. On DVD. I had never seen the film before but after watching it for a while, I thought it is a film meant for children and adults to watch together (or separately). I see that trend in most Disney and Pixar films now. Adult dilemmas and problems intertwined with cutesy animation and a protagonist/ antagonist that kids can believe in etc.
Unlike Snow White And The Seven Dwarves, which is quite boring, Aladdin, particularly the genie in Aladdin, seems very funny. The gags are definitely culturally-rooted and grown-up. Most kids may or may not get them. I know the kid I was watching definitely does not. Things like “wake up and smell the hummus”, “bee yourself” buzzed in Aladdin’s ear by the genie masquerading as a bee. So it is ok for over-20s to watch it and discuss it
