Mom’s birthday

It’s my mom’s birthday.

DSC02023

To celebrate, I came up with a list of ten reasons why she is my favorite mom.

10.  She has a pair of Elie Tahari sandals that she bought by accident (because she never buys brand name shoes), and always tells everyone that she has brand name shoes, but when they ask her which brand, she doesn’t remember, so she says Pavarotti, and starts singing opera.
9.   She loves Mr. B and cooks him lots of foods when we come on weekends so I don’t have to.
8.  Where do you think I get my sarcasm from?
7.   I can hear her laughing from five rooms away. Even in DC.
6.  She’s never afraid to try something new, including sushi and South African food.
5.  She likes feeding fish.

4. She made me literate in Russian.
3.  She cries every time at Fiddler on the Roof.
2.  She’s the most cheerful and upbeat person I know, balancing out both my and my dad’s Russian pessimism.
1.  She’s the only mom I’ve ever had. I can’t be objective on this one. ;)

Thank you Sophie !
I will keep doing that until babies come. Then I will nag her that she is not raising them right.

Mom, your наглость seems to be limitless.

Wrong!
You nag her about having more.
Here is an acceptable format:

“look at the little one! so pretty, as well as smart! Isn’t it a waste not to have a few more just like that?”

Vicki’s Mom: A very happy birthday! And what a fine daughter you have.

Vicki: The best reason is no. 1 but I refer you to something @madhousewife’s son said. He was 5 then. He said: “You are the most beautiful mum in the world. Trust me, I have seen the other mums!” Out of the mouths of babes, eh? :-)

Thank you for complimenting on Vicki. She still has way to go until she reaches my level of fineness – my work is never done :)

Vicki’s Mom/ Polina: In math-speak, her trying to reach your level of fineness is a tending-to not an equal-to function. :-)

Like my grandparents used to tease me when I was young: “You’re my FAVORITE granddaughter!”
“But Grandma, I’m your ONLY granddaughter!”

That shtick was great fun until my aunts & uncle procreated and presented the grandparents with three baby girls in less than a year.

In other words, look, it’s your awesome mother’s birthday, she’s getting older, when are you going to present her with lovely grandchildren? ;-)

Happy birthday to Vicki’s mom! Even though she looks younger than I do. (See, Vicki? This is what happens when you have children early in life. You get to enjoy and look youthful. Not like hag.)

Thank you Marinka ! If you think this is youthful you should see my pictures from 20 years ago, I looked even younger then! BTW – enjoy reading your blog in general and your ни пуха не пера blog in particular!
