Hi Vicki, I know I’m a little late commenting on this, but I was poking around your site and was curious to read your comments on the book. I too loved it, and was especially impressed with Montefiore’s level of detail. But I also found it all a bit sensationalistic – something about the book felt a bit emotionally manipulative.

I watched the Amazon video too – it’s interesting that he characterizes Sashenka as having just made one mistake. But really, you so often didn’t even have to make any sort of mistake to be caught up in that spiders’ web. That was the horror of the whole system that she helped create.
